Vegetable Warfare

Companies use many marketing tactics to brainwash the public into buying their products. They invade our minds and homes through warfare used in commercials to overtake our pocketbook. The usage of cartoon characters and animals is appealing to almost anyone, especially children, because they see their favorite character on tv and want the product that the characters are promoting. It is quite effective, however, I often wonder if what they say is true: are the companies so concerned with health as they claim to be? Apparently, Sponge Bob Square Pants will now be promoting vegetables to kids. It is apart of a health campaign to get kids to eat more healthy or rather, healthier. I think not. Consider if you will the cartoon character they are using: Sponge Bob has become ever so popular over the last couple of years so much so to the point that he has found his cushion in kids minds, even people my age adore the ground he walks on by wearing arm bands and t-shirts and other such things, but you have to look deeper within what is really going on here? No one cares about our health. It is simply to promote Sponge Bob. There is an underlying message here: that parents cannot control the diets of their children and that we cannot control our own diets either. Thus because we can't and they can't, SpongeBob can. It's SpongeBob to the resuce, so to speak. He can parade in with all his spongyness and catapult the promotion of good health into our minds, but in turn we give our money to Nickelodeon while also helping out the heart and bodies of children. Why should we have to spend money just because Sponge Bob is promoting carrots, cauliflower and celery? Why do we need him to help us get back on track? Aren't we not in control of what goes into our mouths? I myself am consciously aware as are 99.9% of the population as to what they are eating on a daily basis and there is no reason why Sponge Bob should have to promote good health, when we can distinguish between healthy and non-healthy ourselves. Therefore, there is no other reason Nickelodeon is doing this but to fatten their pockets at the expense of us, but of course, that is typical business so I shouldn't be surprised, just thought I'd rant for a little bit about it.
